Gandhi Hill, Vijayawada

The Gandhi Hill is a tourist attraction and is a renowned hill. It is situated at 500ft elevation. It is situated above the Vijayawada main town. In fact, to be precise, it is right behind the railway station of Vijayawada, in the Tarapet area.

The Gandhi hill has a memorial of Gandhi on this hillrock. It is one of its kinds with seven stupas and so the hills are also rightly known by Gandhi’s name. This Gandhi hill memorial has a library with good and large collection of books, a portrayal showing the Bapuji, the father of the nation, a planetarium and you can find Mahatma Gandhi teachings on the stone slab inscriptions. This hillrock is very important as Dr.Zakhir Hussain; the former president unveiled this Gandhi stupa on 6 October, 1968.

The beauty of the Gandhi stupa is that it is 16m that is 52ft tall. There are seven more tall pillars in 490ft, 150m height. This is regarded to be a monument representing the struggle of Indian independence and the father of the nation is paid homage.

Gandhi hill was referred to as ORR hill. Standing tall at 500 ft elevation, you can have a clear view of the beautiful city and so is one of the tourist spots. It also has a toy train equipped. The attractions include the planetarium and sound and light show on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi hill can be visited by paying a small entry fee of Rs.3/-. The visiting hours are from 4pm to 8.30 pm and Tuesday is observed as a holiday. The photo exhibition of Mahatma Gandhi, planetarium and train attract children. The planetarium entry fee is Rs.10 and the train fee is Rs. 5/-. Bear in mind, children below 5 years of age are not allowed. Children will enjoy the train ride.

Gandhi hill at 52ft tall was the tallest structure with 7 stupas in the Vijayawada. This is the foremost Gandhi Memorial on a hillock in India. The library is well equipped. The sound and light show, the stone slabs inscription and the planetarium are some of the main attractions that you will not realize when hours flew into minutes.
